The Recharge in Nature partnership funded by BMW UK has announced the installation of EV chargers across all 15 of the UK’s National Parks by the end of 2025. Twelve new EV charge-points have been installed in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, while six chargers can be found at the North York Moors. The UK has nearly 54,000 public charging points, however, one-third of these are currently in London. With 93 million visits to the UK’s National Parks made by car each year, the network enhancement throughout National Parks means more travel options. Graham Biggs, Corporate Communications Director, BMW UK, emphasized the importance of spreading the distribution of chargers across the UK to bring countryside areas up to speed with the bigger cities.

Community Impact and Nature Restoration Projects

Alongside the installation of EV chargers, the Recharge in Nature partnership is supporting community impact and nature restoration projects unique to each National Park. BMW funding is being used to support outdoor volunteering programs in the North York Moors National Park. Heather McNiff, Head of Outdoor Learning and Engagement at the North York Moors National Park, highlighted the support for the ‘Youth Plus’ program, providing more opportunities for individuals aged 16 and over to engage in volunteering in the National Park.

BMW Group’s CO2 Reduction Targets

The BMW Group has set clear CO2 reduction targets across the lifecycle of every vehicle and is committed to finding new ways to cut emissions. By 2030, the average CO2 emissions per vehicle will be at least halved from 2019 levels. The company is also part of the Race to Zero, with a robust commitment to full climate neutrality over the entire value chain by 2050 at the latest.
