Introduction

McLaren introduced the P1 as its most extreme supercar, and then they made an even faster one: the track-only McLaren P1 GTR. Based on a rare, exclusive, and valuable supercar, the P1 GTR raises the bar even further with a unique livery and incredible technical improvements. And, for the first time in a while, there’s now one for sale, and it’s available on SBX Cars.

Engine and Performance

With the P1, McLaren wanted to up the ante with one of the world’s first hybrid hypercars. Under the hood of the McLaren P1 GTR, you’ll find a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V8, putting out 986 horsepower in total, around 180 of which come from the electric motor. The engine is the same as the ‘standard’ P1, but the car is faster because it’s designed for the track, and because it’s lighter. It only weighs 1,440 kg – or 3,175 lbs.

Design and Specifications

The best part about building a car for the track is that it allows the manufacturer to get rid of all those elements that are only there to make sure the car is road-legal. Whilst the P1 and P1 GTR share the same MonoCage carbon-fiber tub, the GTR replaces the heavier active suspension with a racing suspension system. It is also fitted with lightweight racing wheels wrapped in slick Pirelli tires that increase traction and drip while reducing weight.

Raising the Bar with a Track-Only Supercar

The fixed, full-width rear wing gives the GTR a 10 percent increase in downforce over the standard P1. Even the wing mirrors are different. They’ve been moved from the doors onto the A-pillars to improve aerodynamic performance and visibility. The interior follows the same theme, and everything that isn’t needed on a track is gone. The GTR now features a single, fixed carbon-fiber bucket seat with a six-point harness. And even the steering wheel is different, inspired by the one used by Sir Lewis Hamilton to win the 2008 Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship.

Interior Features

Thanks to all these changes, the car is now 50 kg (110 lbs) lighter than the road-going P1. The interior follows the same theme, and everything that isn’t needed on a track is gone. The GTR now features a single, fixed carbon-fiber bucket seat with a six-point harness.

Rarity of the McLaren P1 GTR

McLaren only built 370+ units of the P1, but only 58 of these are GTR models. And each one is unique. This one is decorated with a custom livery and is available with only 625 km (388 miles) on the clock.
